Matariki Festival - June/July, NZ-Wide
Matariki is the Māori name given to Pleiades, a star cluster that can be seen all over the world. During the winter months, Matariki rises high in the skies above Aotearoa and signifies the start of the Māori New Year. Celebrations will take place all over the country during June and July so everyone will have a chance to take part. Musical performances, art installations, talks, amazing food and so much more will be on offer during this significant time of the year.
Queenstown Winter Festival - 20-23 June, Queenstown
This festival has been going hard for over 40 years now and seems to get better with each passing year. Incredible international musical acts, rafting, the torchlight procession, comedy nights, snow tubing, the dog derby and fireworks are just some of the things you can get up to. The whole thing is a huge celebration of winter and you’ll be hard pressed to find a more entertaining location from the 20th till the 23rd of June!
Ohakune Mardi Gras - 22nd June, Ohakune
Strap in for this one! The Ohakune Mardi Gras made a raucous return in 2018 to rave reviews and looks set to be even bigger this year. Taking inspiration from the famous New Orleans festival of the same name, expect street major street-festival vibes with amazing outfits and colourful characters. Some of the biggest Drum’n’Bass DJs will be performing for this one-night-only event. This is one party you do not want to miss out on!
French Festival - 11-14 July, Auckland
Lovers of all things French dare not miss out on this one. The first night, dubbed One Night In France, will have you seated at a themed table, enjoying a 5-course meal and bubbles and in the draw to win a trip to beautiful New Caledonia! The following few days you can enjoy the French Village in Shed 10 and The Cloud with market stalls, live music, a movie theatre, French Bistro and more! It promises to be a unique experience and one we would highly recommend!
