Yes, you read that right. White Island is an active marine volcano off the coast of Whakatane. Helicopter tours will fly you right over the island and land in the crater, at which point you’ll jump out and get to walk around and explore. It sounds dangerous, but the crew are well trained and will ensure your safety is paramount. The experience and adrenaline rush of standing in the heart of an active volcano is something that can’t be put into words. Definitely, do this if you can!
Become A Hobbit For A Day
The Lord Of The Rings films are beloved the world over and played a huge part in putting New Zealand on the map as a scenic destination. We don’t mean New Zealanders - you’ll meet plenty of them of course - we mean actual Kiwi birds! The small flightless birds are nocturnal and very shy, not to mention only found in a few remote parts of the country, so you’re unlikely to see one in the wild. But there are Zoos and Reserves around the country that will allow you to get pretty close and personal with the little cuties.
