We’re now into Autumn and we’re surely all looking for something to take our minds off the cooler weather, wind, rain and impending winter months. Thankfully we’ve found some cool little events you can attend to distract you. Here is part two of our Autumn Events Guide:

The Devonport Arts Festival - Flagstaff Gallery, Devonport, Auckland, 5th-7th April 2019

The festival kicks off on Friday the 5th with a fun twilight party featuring art-making tables for kids, free sketch classes for adults, puppet shows, food trucks, live music and segway rides. You will also get to participate in a cool interactive art installation creating stalagmites out of recycled perspex. Don’t forget this is all just on the first night! Throughout the weekend you will be able to participate in more interactive art installations, hear more cool music and view some amazing art pieces from local and international artists. The festival has been going since the 1950s and has been run by passionate locals ever since. Art lovers shouldn’t miss this!

French Country Fair - Tauherenikau Racecourse, Wairarapa, 6th/7th April 2019

Now in its 11th year, the French Country Fair has established itself as a fun and classy way to spend the weekend. You will be treated to authentic French food, music and art and can partake in some vintage horse and cart rides while taking in the dulcet tones of some talented jazz musicians. The rustic appearance of the racecourse buildings and the beautiful chestnuts trees only add to the atmosphere and charm of the festival, ensuring a memorable day out.

The Nelson Pun Battle Championships - Ghost Light Theatre, Nelson, 11th May 2019

Everyone loves a good pun right? Well maybe not, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check out this cringe-worthy groan fest featuring Nelson’s wittiest pun masters. People will go head to head and battle it out with their best(see: worst) puns with the eventual winner getting to compete in the NZ Pun Battle National Final. It’s all a bit of a laugh and nobody will be taking themselves too seriously, so grab some friends, head to Nelson, have a few drinks and enjoy the steady flow of witty wordplay.

Hororata Night Glow - Hororata Domain, Christchurch, 18th May 2019

This family-friendly event features everything you’d want in an autumn festival. There will be live music, a food and wine trail, entertainment for the kids and a mouth-watering selection of street food. However, the main event and the reason everyone is there is the true spectacle of the night. Hot air balloonists from around the country gather to put on a stunning light show, with individual balloons lighting up in time with music to create a visual and aural feast for the senses. Anyone who has seen the show in the past will tell you that if you have the opportunity, to go and see it.
