You’d be hard-pressed to find someone whose favourite time of year is Autumn. The weather gradually gets colder, all of the leaves start to die and fall, and everyone knows winter is coming next. So to distract you from all of this, we’ve put together a list of events happening around the country during these bleak months. This is part one, so there will be more coming and we’ve been sure to cover a wide spectrum of interests. Here is our Autumn Events Guide:

Balloons Over Waikato - Innes Common, Hamilton, 19th-23rd March 2019
This event is considered by many in the city to be, arguably, Hamilton’s favourite event. The sight of hot air balloons rising through the Waikato sunrise is truly a sight to behold and is a must-see. The event lasts 5 days and is one of New Zealand’s last large-scale free events, so there’s no excuse to miss it! The event ends with a bang, culminating in a beautiful orchestrated light show and huge fireworks spectacle.

Pasifika Festival - Western Springs Stadium, Auckland, 23rd/24th March 2019
Now in its 27th year, this family friendly event has become an iconic mainstay in Auckland’s festival calendar. It brings together people of all backgrounds to celebrate the Pacific Island community and its diverse cultures. You can experience food, art, demonstrations, music and performances from all of the Pasifika cultures in 10 distinctive villages; Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Aotearoa, Hawaii, Kiribati/Tokelau, Samoa, Tahiti, Tuvalu and Tonga. Each village has their own performance stage and stalls offering signature dishes and crafts.

Christchurch Pet & Animal Expo - Pioneer Leisure Centre, Christchurch, 4th and 5th May 2019
Animal and Pet lovers can’t miss this one! This event is a celebration of pets and the wonderful companionship they provide. There will be special features, attractions, entertainment and demonstrations as well as the latest pet products and services to help give your pet the best care you possible can. A range of charities, rescues, breeders and clubs will be there to increase awareness of the plight many animals still have to go through and to explain how you can do your part in ending animal cruelty and abuse. This is a family friendly event and is sure to be a hit with everyone.

Feast Marlborough - The Forum, Blenheim, 9th-12th May 2019
Marlborough is world famous for its incredible food and wine and Feast Marlborough is a celebration of this. Throughout the four days you will be treated to a selection of gourmet food, paired perfectly with the region’s famous wines. There will be live music to accompany the food and drink, as well as meet and greets with local wine makers and chefs. The four day event will take you on a culinary journey through the history of Marlborough’s association with food and wine and shouldn’t be missed by foodies and wine lovers alike.
