Tauranga is known for beautiful weather, music festivals, great surf, beaches… summer basically. It’s definitely a summer city, but that doesn’t mean that’s all it has to offer. Tauranga is a great city in its own right and has a bunch of cool things to do if you know where to look. Here are just a few different activities you could partake in when visiting this coastal city. So hire a Rite Price Rentals car, Tauranga awaits!

Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary
It’s only a half hour drive from Tauranga city centre, but you’ll feel a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Mount Tutu provides accomodation on a beautiful 16 acre bird sanctuary, guaranteeing an unforgettable experience. It is perfectly located for bushwalking, hiking and exploring, as well as spotting plenty of native birdlife. A complementary 1 hour glow worm tour is provided as well as a continental breakfast. This place is truly paradise!

Adrenalin Forest Bay of Plenty
For a change of pace from the serene surroundings of Mount Tutu, head to Adrenalin Forest for some heart pumping fun. Push yourself on over 100 different challenges across six different levels. The courses will test you physically and mentally so come prepared! Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, there is something for everyone here and you’ll leave feeling great about yourself.

Waimarino Adventure Park
If you want to get the adrenaline pumping but aren’t a huge fan of ropes course or heights, then Waimarino Adventure Park might fit the bill for you. A few of the amazingly fun activities at the park include water trampoline, climbing wall, NZ’s only kayak slide, tarzan swing, diving boards, slip ‘n’ slide, ropes course, volleyball, barbeques and so much more. You’ll need at least an entire day just to do half of the activities! Waimarino Adventure Park is perfect for the family with a bunch of activities for a range of ages.

Papamoa Hills
Grab your car rental and head 25 minutes south east to Papamoa Hills Regional Park to partake in some beautiful walks through historic land. If you’re feeling fit you can take on the 224 metre high summit and enjoy the gorgeous views on offer from the top. At 135ha there are plenty of walks to do and a lot of historical sites to see. Scattered around the property are seven different Pa sites, which are old villages which were inhabited by Maori as far back as 1650. Stunning views, a variety of tracks, beautiful native plantlife and rich cultural heritage will make your visit to Papamoa Hills Regional Park one to remember.

Tauranga Art Gallery
The Tauranga Art Gallery opened 12 years ago and has grown in popularity ever since. Exhibitions of historical and contemporary art are developed in house by gallery staff with a balance of touring exhibitions from other institutions and local artists’ projects. There is a range of education and visitor programmes, such as debates, floor talks, guided tours, seminars, screenings, performances and artist residencies, all to enhance visitors’ experience. Admission is free but a koha(donation) is greatly appreciated.
