Isn’t summer the best? The weather is warm, everyone is in a good mood and the pohutukawa are blooming. It’s also when everything is happening! There are an abundance of festivals and events happening in January of 2019, so here are a few taking place around the country that we think you should check out, if you get the chance.

Bay Dreams (R18) - Mt Maunganui, Bay of Plenty, 2 January 2019
We’re starting with a bang here. Bay Dreams has established itself as New Zealand’s premier hip hop and electronic music festival of the last few years and has played host to some massive artists such as Grandmaster Flash, Danny Brown, Flatbush Zombies, $uicideboy$, Concord Dawn, Shapeshifter, Peking Duk and more. They’re coming heavy again this year with chart-topping rapper Cardi B headlining and underground kings $uicideboy$ returning for a second time. This is probably one for the younger crowd but shouldn’t be missed for fans of the hip hop and electronic music scenes.

Auckland Folk Festival - Auckland, 25-27 January 2019
This is New Zealand’s most popular folk music festival and will feature top artists from around the world, as well as plenty of local talent. With 6 stages, including one just for kids, and camping included in the ticket price, this is the perfect festival for friends or families.

Gladstonebury 3 - Wairarapa, 20 January 2019
The focus of this event is family fun, so bring the kids, the cousins, and all their friends! The two stages will feature up-and-coming local acts and there will be local crafts, food and wine to be enjoyed while listening. The event is located in the beautiful Gladestone Vineyard in the town of Carterton.

Hagley Park Polo Classic - Christchurch, 27 January 2019
The Hagley Park Polo Classic makes its return to Christchurch for the 2nd year. Located at the picturesque Hagley Park in Christchurch, Polo Players from around the world will compete to lift the coveted Hagley Park Polo Cup. Whether you’re a fan of the sport or not, this will be a great day out for all. Featuring family-friendly entertainment throughout the day, as well as the main spectacle of exciting Polo games, there will always be something to hold your attention.

Spanglish Meetup & Fiesta (R18) - Wakatu Hotel, Nelson 25 January 2019
Here’s something a little bit different. This summer, on the last friday of every month, Latino Corner will be hosting a spanglish meetup and fiesta. Here you can practice your spanish with other people of varying skill levels and immerse yourself in spanish culture. Everybody is welcome. The first couple of hours will be spent mingling, eating and drinking. Once everyone is well acquainted, the party will begin. Traditional spanish food will be available and the salsa beats will be pumping all night. This will surely be a night to remember with a fun twist.

Gardens Magic - Wellington Botanical Gardens, 8-27 January 2019
Every night from the 8th to the 27th of January, Wellington Botanical Gardens will host a free concert at the iconic sound shell stage. This event proves to be incredibly popular year after year and with another fantastic groups of acts lined up for the 2019 edition, this could be the biggest yet. The concerts are perfect for people of all ages. Bring a blanket, some drinks, some snacks, find a nice spot and settle in for a fun night of music and dancing surrounded by the beautiful botanical gardens.
