With spring nearly upon us, here are a few events around the country that you should definitely check out...

International Hobbit Day, Hobbiton Movie Set, Waikato (22nd September)

Whether you’re a rabid fan of the films and books or not, this day is full of fun and joy for all. If a pint of delicious ale and a feast where you won’t be judged for grabbing seconds (or even thirds) sounds like a good time to you, then you can’t miss this. On Saturday 22 September at the Hobbiton Movie Set near the Waikato town of Matamata you can enjoy all that and more as the Baggins' special day is celebrated in style.

World of WearableArt, Wellington (27th September to 14th October)

The World of WearableArt in Wellington is something that must be experienced to fully understand it in all of its eccentric and outlandish glory.

It has no narration, no explanation and needs none. The World of WearableArt is simply a two-hour tour de force of breathtaking costumes, choreography and music that crosses all language barriers and, as a judge of the event once put it, "makes Lady Gaga look like a librarian".” - NewZealand.com.

If that explanation doesn’t make you want to see it, nothing will.

Diwali Festival, Auckland (20-21 October)

Also known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali is a culturally important festival celebrated by Indian communities the world over. Auckland's Diwali Festival spans two days and is held in downtown Aotea Square. Every year it brings thousands of locals and visitors of all ages and ethnicities together to celebrate both traditional and contemporary Indian culture. If you manage to head along you will be treated to local and international dance, music and theatre performers, delicious food and craft stalls, a wedding expo, seminars and workshops. Diwali is also celebrated in Wellington on the 28th of October.

The New Zealand Cider Festival, Nelson (3rd November)

Back for its third year, the New Zealand Cider Festival is hoping for a repeat of 2017’s sold-out success. This year festival goers will get to sample over 80 New Zealand cider varieties from across the country. Held in the historic village of Founders Heritage Park in Nelson, the festival celebrates togetherness and diversity. You will have a chance to sample some traditional as well as a few “new world” varieties in a laid back festival environment.

Toast Martinborough, Wairarapa (18 November)

A day with friends in the sunny Wairarapa, drinking incredible pinot noirs, white wines and dessert wines, listening to live music and enjoying some sumptuous cuisine. If that sounds like heaven to you, then get yourself to Martinborough on 18 November and enjoy this wonderful event.
