  1. Lake Tekapo: Lake Tekapo is nestled in the heart of New Zealand's South Island. The lake lies at the foot of the Southern Alps and New Zealand's highest mountain, Mt Cook (Aoraki) is only a short drive away. It’s a beautiful sight to see with a cluster of New Zealand’s highest peaks bordering the lake which provides an incredible backdrop for some of the most amazing views in New Zealand, let alone the world!

  1. Lake Taupo: Autumn is the perfect time for a short, relaxing break in Great Lake Taupo. There are many gorgeous lakeside lodges to stay at while getting to enjoy the beautiful surrounds and colours of autumn at the lake. Even when the weather is wet, there are some amazing hikes, either long or short, to suit your mood that day. Mountain bike trails or totally relax in the natural geothermal hot spots around the lake and finish it off with a glass of wine and a delicious meal.

  1. Lake Wanaka: Lake Wanaka is located in the Otago region of New Zealand, it covers an area of 192 km² and it is New Zealand's fourth largest lake! It is estimated to be more than 300 metres deep. The lake is perfect for jet-boating, kayaking, and rafting, and is also perfect to get out and explore the tracks and trails. Wanaka town has a gorgeous selection of shops and restaurants to fill your time when you’re not enjoying or relaxing and taking in the views of the lake.

  1. Lake Rotorua: Lake Rotorua is a gorgeous peaceful lake but its history is rather interesting. Being one of the several large volcanoes in the Rotorua region, its underlying magma chamber collapsed after a huge eruption which resulted in a collapse that created a circular caldera, which filled with water to form the North Island's second largest lake. You’ll find a stunning view of clouds drifting around and since the water has a high sulphur content, you’ll be able to see the enchanting green-blue colouration of the waters. There is also a small island, Mokoia Island, located in the middle of the lake, which is now home to endangered birds and wildlife.

  1. Lake Rotoiti: Lake Rotoiti which was previously also known as Lake Arthur, is a stunning lake in the Tasman Region of New Zealand. It is a beautiful mountain lake which sits within the borders of Nelson Lakes National Park. Lake Rotoiti is spectacular during the winter months when it sits surrounded by snow-capped mountains, but you’re bound to love the scenery all year round. Lake Rotoiti has a very cool and somewhat famous jetty, it is basically a tradition for visitors to take some photos of it or with it!

  2. Lake Waikaremoana: Lake Waikaremoana has got to be one of the most magical lakes in New Zealand. A well-known spot for camping and gorgeous walking trails, Lake Waikaremoana is a must visit. Situated approximately 90 minutes from Gisborne, you’ll feel like you’ve walked into a tropical paradise in the middle of our small Aotearoa. The Lake Waikaremoana track has the largest area of native forest in the North Island, so you’ll get to enjoy many aspects of this beautiful area.
