Once you’ve decided on your camping destination, follow these top tips if your trip!

  1. Plan ahead.  A last minute scurry to pack and head out the door may not ruin your trip but it can make it stressful before you ever reach the campground.

  1. Prepare a checklist! This is kind of a no brainer, but the worst thing to do when camping is forgetting something! Make sure you write everything down that you might need… lighter, water, snacks, can opener, insect repellant…. This list goes on!

  1. Pack well!! Just like you don’t want to under pack, you certainly don’t want to overpack, especially if you’re going to be walking or hiking for several hours. Think about how long you’re going and plan what you will need to use each day. Also read up on effecting packing. There are so many hacks out there to help you utilise all the space in your pack!

  1. Pack easy to make meals! The last thing you want is to be cooking up crazy meals while camping. A good idea is to meal prep before you head off. Some ideas are, pancake mix in a clean empty tomato sauce bottle, all you need to do is add some milk or water at your destination. Ham & cheese sandwiches which you can wrap in foil and toast over the campfire. Pack plenty of snacks in little snap lock bags, easy to access when you need a quick fix. Make sure you bring a roll of tin foil, this will be a saviour when camping and cooking! You can make so many easy & yummy meals by placing everything in tin foil and popping it on the campfire!

  1. Don’t let money get in the way of a great camping adventure.  There are a number of ways to maximize each dollar and ensure that you’re getting the most bang for your buck when purchasing camping equipment. Tent camping on a budget is certainly possible.

  1. Use tent rope to create a clothesline between two trees.  It’s a perfect way to dry wet clothes and hang coats or boots.  It also doubles as part of a quick shelter when combined with a tarp and poles.  It could be useful for protecting the things on a picnic table when unexpected afternoon showers appear out of nowhere.

  1. Bring an extra headlamp to set the mood.  Loop the headlamp around a Nalgene bottle or a gallon jug with the light facing into the middle.  It creates a very cool night light and looks great with different color bottles. Blue is a favorite with our family.

  1. Nothing is more uncomfortable in camp than unhappy little campers.  Keep the kids engaged with games and activities that appeal specifically to them. Bring some fun games that everyone can play, another great thing to do is puzzles! Bring some puzzles, games and colouring books to keep the little ones and everyone else entertained!

These are just a handful of camping tips, there are so many websites with amazing information to help make your camping trip a huge success! Remember, be prepared, let someone know where you’re going, when you’re planning on coming home and pack enough to last but don’t over pack! Lastly, have fun!
