Here are some of our favourite things to do while visiting the Hawkes Bay.

  1. The Faraday Centre in Napier, is Hawke's Bay's Museum of Technology. It's a place of discovery where history comes alive through hands on experience. Rather than read and look at pieces of history, they encourage you to touch, hold items, pull levers and truly discover how things would've been in days gone by. Experience history your way.

  1. Make the Art Deco Centre your first stop to find out more about the devastating 1931 earthquake and the rebuild of the city in the style of the times - Art Deco. Along with daily guided walks vintage car tours and transfers, the Art Deco Centre has fabulous deco-inspired homeware and giftwares for sale. Each year they host two Art Deco festivals - their biggest and brightest in February, is the world-famous Tremains Art Deco Festival where 40,000 people arrive dressed in deco and take part in five fabulous days of Art Deco festival fun.

  1. Splash Planet is New Zealand’s only water theme park and is a beloved Hawke’s Bay destination where generations of families have made lifetime memories. The season opens on Monday 13 November until 2 April 2018. Offering an unrivalled selection of theme park rides and water attractions, Splash Planet is the perfect destination for the whole family! There is so much going on, the fun never stops!

  1. For those looking for something a little more sophisticated, head to New Zealand's first winery restaurant, Vidal Estate. It has been a popular destination for locals and visitors since the opening of its doors in 1979. Vidal Estate is open for lunch & dinner, the atmosphere is one of relaxed sophistication. The team focus on creating clean simple flavours using New Zealand fresh, seasonal produce and take inspiration from classical methods and dishes. Vidal's comprehensive wine list, showcases recent and aged Vidal wines as well other top New Zealand wines to perfectly complement the dishes.

  1. Te Mata Peak, located behind Havelock North, gives 360° views of Hawke’s Bay. Visitors can see Napier and Mahia Peninsula to the north and east, hill country to the south and east, and the Ruahine, Kaweka and Maungaharuru ranges beyond the fertile Heretaunga Plains. Mount Ruapehu is often visible in the distance. Visitors can drive, cycle or walk through 98 hectares of parkland on a series of well graded walking tracks. The round trip takes about two hours but shorter walks, suitable for both leisure and more active walkers, are signposted along the way.

  1. The stunning Lake Waikaremoana is located in Te Urewera in the North Island of New Zealand, 60 kilometres northwest of Wairoa. Lake Waikaremoana covers an area of 54 square kilometres, and lies at the heart of the historical home of Ngai Tuhoe. From Maori, Lake Waikaremoana roughly translates to the 'sea of rippling waters' and is renowned for its breathtaking beauty. Lake Waikaremoana is a holiday destination for people who use the lake for fishing, tramping and other recreational activities. The Lake Waikaremoana Track, one of New Zealand's "Great Walks", is a three- to four-day tramp which follows approximately half of the lake's circumference. There are huts along the walk which you need to book to stay in. Camping is permitted unless you are more than 500 metres from the track.
