1. Tobin’s Track

Tobin’s Track is a fairly quick hike up to the edge of the Crown Terrace, which sits above Arrowtown. The locals are known to use it as a workout challenge by running or biking up it while taking in the  stunning views. You’ll be able to spot Arrowtown’s streets tucked away into the nook of two mountain Lake Hayes will be off to the south, with the Remarkables resting in the distance. In the summertime make sure you head up to watch the sunset. It’s dreamy.

2. Sawpit Gully

The Sawpit Gully walk will take you about 2-3 hours by taking the Arrow River Trail from Bush Creek walk along until the turnoff indicating Sawpit Gully with a yellow arrow. From there you’ll find it’s a steady climb along the gully, down the sweet trickling stream and you’ll find yourself doing a few backwards and forwards crossings but once you get to the top, you’ll see it’s all worth it to see the views of Lake Hayes and the Remarkables. You may be a little tired once you reach the top, but don’t fret, it’s all downhill on the way back.

3. Arrow River Trail

You’ll start this gorgeous walk in the historic Arrowtown, which will take you along the Arrow river and it’s a must do for anyone visiting the area. You’ll find the walk starts out to the west of Arrowtown, making you way past a large pipeline next to the river. You can make your way across the river and through to Macetown, which is about 15 km away, or simply turn back and come the way you started. If you get a moment in Arrowtown, make sure you stroll the quaint streets and enjoy a coffee at one of the delightful cafes.

4. Lake Hayes Loop

The Lake Hayes loop track circles what is possibly the most incredible location in the wider Queenstown region. If you’re lucky to walk it on a flat calm day, you can spot the reflections of the willow trees, reeds, mountains and lakefront houses in the lake, which is so spectacular. The walk will take you around 2 hours as it winds around the lake.

5. Queenstown Hill Loop

If you’re looking for a moderately challenging walk, then the Queenstown Loop is the one for you. Starting from downtown Queenstown, you can test your walking skills on the this loop track. You’ll make your way up to what is known as the “Basket of Dreams” which is a favourite amongst the locals. This 3 hour walk starts and finished on Belfast Street and you can spot views over the Wakatipu Basin, the Frankton Arm and Queenstown Bay. Since you’ll be downtown, you’ll be able to enjoy a spot of shopping and a yummy bite to eat.
