Wellington, the coolest little capital in the world. This sweet little city is super underrated. Yes it may be windy Wellington, but this gorgeous spot at the bottom of the North Island, has some pretty fun and wonderful things to do and see!

Wellingtons Top Spots!

  1. Cuba street is probably one of the most creative, beautiful and quirky spots you’ll find in Wellington. With a never ending supply of cafes, you won’t be stuck to find somewhere delicious for a (really) good coffee and bite to eat. Not only limited to cafes, there are plenty of fabulous shops if you’re in need of some retail therapy. Twenty-seven names a beautiful Wellington Based women’s wear designer, situated on Vivian street, right off Cuba Street. Or Iko Iko for some fun knick knacks or gifts and you can’t miss out on visiting Hunters & Collectors for the vintage and retro lovers.

  1. Oriental Parade, a people watchers paradise! You will get to see such a wonderful range of people around oriental bay. It’s a beautiful spot for a leisurely stroll or rent a crocodile bike and ride around while having a laugh! There is coffee and gelato along the way or stop for a bite to eat in the well known Beach Babylon Cafe overlooking Oriental Pde and Wellington Harbour.

  1. If it’s a bit of grotty rainy or windy day, head along to Te Papa Tongarewa (which is broadly translatable as "the place of treasures of this land”), Museum of New Zealand. Filled with fantastic exhibits and overflowing with New Zealand History, you’re bound to learn something new and exciting. You won’t get bored while exploring the many levels of this incredible museum. It is free entry for all (except a few short term exhibitions and activities which may have an entry fee).

  1. Wellington Botanical Gardens is a gorgeous spot to spend your morning or afternoon. With so many sweet and beautiful spots to discover, you’ll have plenty to explore. Take a picnic and set up in one of the many lovely open spaces to relax and enjoy. Or if you’d rather, head over to the rose gardens and venture in to the glass houses and finish off with a coffee and bite to eat in the Picnic Cafe while enjoying the amazing view of all the variety of roses the gardens have to offer.

  1. The Wellington Waterfront. Wellington is such a quaint sized city that you can easily walk from one end to the other in 45 minutes and one of the best routes to walk is along the waterfront. Not only a good spot to walk along but a beautiful place to chill out and relax with a cider or beer at one of the many bars along the strip. You can hire rollerblades and skate along the ocean side or take the kids and hire some pedal boats and ride around in the lagoon. Whatever you decide to do along there, it’ll be met with fresh ocean air and incredible views!

Finally, we can’t send you to Wellington without letting you know their most incredible cafes and restaurants. Here are a few you MUST check out; Loretta on Cuba Street, Fidel's on Cuba Street, Olive on Cuba Street, Sweet Mothers Kitchen on Courtney Place, Maranui Surf Lifesaving Cafe which you’ll have to venture out to Lyall Bay to enjoy- but it’s worth the trip! Customs on Ghuznee Street, Prefab on Jessie Street… these are just a few of the must tries, but you won’t be hard pressed to find something decent wherever you go in Wellington!
