If you don’t know what the Mermaid Pools are, then you’re certainly missing out. The Mermaid Pools are located in the beautiful Matapouri Beach on the Tutukaka Coast, of the North Island of New Zealand. To give you a rough idea, it’s approximately a 2 hour 45 minute drive, north of Auckland.

Only a ten minute drive from Tutukaka, you’ll discover a spectacular white sand coastal beach and a sweet and restful estuary. Take a walk over to the stunning mermaid pools. You’ll want to explore the Mermaid Pools at low tide, otherwise you’re not going to get to experience it in all it’s beauty (please be cautious at high tide, especially if you’re travelling with little ones).
Lay in the sun with your family & friends, while summer tunes play in the background. Then head for a refreshing swim in the crystal blue water. You won’t be able to resist a dip in that ocean. If you want to explore some more, from Matapouri there is a walkway via the coast to Whale Bay with incredible coastal views (it’ll take you approximately 40 minutes one way).
You will feel like you’re in another world exploring the far north of New Zealand.

Then stop by the Kiwi North Museum, you’ll be able to see some of New Zealand’s native species.
Depending on where you’re staying and how much time you have on your hands, it’s always worth taking a drive to The Gallery & Cafe, Helena Bay Hill. Have a browse around the gallery before getting a bite to eat in the cafe and relax in the luscious subtropical gardens, with breaktaking views.
